Multiplayer Server Improvements
We believe transparency is crucial in building a community of engaged and satisfied users. In keeping with this, we'd like to update you on some recent improvements and ongoing challenges related to Infinite Flight's multiplayer servers. Our aim is to give you an insider's look at what we've been doing to optimize your experience, as well as to shed light on some of the complexities involved in maintaining a high-quality, global multiplayer environment. Back in December 2022, we announced some server updates. Read on to find out more about how we're making your time in the skies smoother and more enjoyable.
Performance Improvements for ATC Controllers
One of the major areas we've been focusing on is improving server performance, especially for Air Traffic Control (ATC) controllers. We noticed that in situations with high traffic, there were issues with aircraft disappearing from the controllers' maps. This severely impacted their ability to provide effective service. Our recent updates have addressed these issues, ensuring that information from pilots is reliably delivered to ATC controllers as well as to other pilots in busy airspaces.
Enhanced Data Checks for Timely Updates
We've implemented stronger checks for data transmission to ensure that you receive crucial updates without any delays. Timeliness is key in a multiplayer environment like Infinite Flight, and our updates aim to enhance the consistency and speed of information flow across the server.
Improved User Experience and Troubleshooting
The server updates have not just made things smoother for us on the backend, but they've also helped us better understand user experience. We've been able to identify why some users face issues despite having stable internet connections. This information is invaluable as it allows us to further optimize the multiplayer experience, especially as we continue to roll out new features.
Challenges and Considerations
Of course, as with any multiplayer server configuration, there are some ongoing challenges Here's what they look like for us:
Global Networking: Ensuring timely data packet delivery between our servers and your devices is a significant task. Delays in this process can result in lag, which compromises the flight and gaming experience. If you experience issues, understanding the connectivity between your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and our data centers becomes crucial for diagnostics and troubleshooting.
VPNs and Gaming: While VPNs have many legitimate uses, they can adversely affect your online gaming experience. Using a VPN adds an extra "stop" for your data packets, increasing the travel time and potentially causing lag. While we don't outright recommend against using a VPN, if you do use one, selecting a server close to your home country can minimize performance degradation.
We're continually working to improve your experience on Infinite Flight's multiplayer servers. These updates represent our ongoing commitment to delivering an enjoyable and seamless flying experience for everyone involved. Thank you for your continued support and happy flying!
