Headlining the update is the all-new Airbus A321neo, but calling it simply a new aircraft doesn't quite tell the whole story. For the first time in Infinite Flight, you can interact directly with switches and controls in the cockpit, work through a proper startup procedure, manage your flight using a functional Airbus MCDU, and hear an entirely new sound pack built for the aircraft.

Beyond the A321neo, 26.4 introduces holding patterns, ATC-assigned holds, contrails across most of our jet fleet, runway traffic warnings, an improved SimBrief import experience, major multiplayer and replay improvements, and significant work to the technology running underneath the simulator.

A New Kind of Aircraft

The Airbus A321neo arrives in Infinite Flight with 28 liveries and a level of cockpit interaction we've never offered before.

Until now, the cockpit in Infinite Flight has primarily been a place to view your instruments while flying. With the A321neo, that begins to change.

For the first time, switches and controls within the 3D cockpit can be interacted with directly. Instrument panel camera views make it easy to move around the flight deck, while swipe navigation lets you quickly move between panels as you work through the aircraft.

That interaction is paired with a much more complete startup experience. Rather than simply spawning with everything ready to go, you can bring the aircraft to life using its cockpit controls and systems.

If you'd rather have some help along the way, assisted checklists can guide you through the process. Supported checklist items can take you directly to the correct panel and highlight the control you need, making the system useful whether you're learning the aircraft or just need a reminder of what comes next.

Shortcuts for starting and shutting down the aircraft are also available when you want to get moving more quickly.

Flight Management Comes to the Cockpit

The A321neo also introduces our most advanced implementation of an Airbus MCDU to date.

From the cockpit, you can work with your flight plan, select procedures, and make changes to your route using the MCDU itself. This brings another important part of the flight deck into the aircraft and gives you a new way to manage your flight without relying entirely on Infinite Flight's main navigation interface.

Combined with the interactive cockpit and startup procedure, the result is a much more hands-on experience from the moment you arrive at the gate.

We've also incorporated v-speeds into your flight planning. By entering v-speeds manually, or importing them using SimBrief, pilots will now see speed indicators on the hud, and PFD views.

And then there are the sounds.

A completely new sound pack accompanies the aircraft, adding another layer to everything from startup to takeoff, cruise, and shutdown. With the cockpit interaction, systems, and audio working together, the A321neo represents a significant step forward for aircraft in Infinite Flight.

Contrails Have Arrived

Look behind most jet aircraft in 26.4 and, under the right conditions, you may notice something new.

Contrails have been added to most jet aircraft in Infinite Flight.

They are generated automatically, adding another familiar feature of real-world aviation to both your own flights and the aircraft sharing the skies around you.

Whether you're watching traffic cross overhead, flying formation, or looking back at your own aircraft in an external view, contrails add a new sense of scale and movement to the world.

Holding Patterns

Holding patterns are another major addition in 26.4.

Pilots can now add a hold at a waypoint from the map or, on supported aircraft such as the A321neo, through the aircraft's flight management system. Once established, LNAV will follow the racetrack pattern until you're ready to continue.

We've also brought holds into multiplayer ATC.

Controllers can issue a hold at a waypoint, which is then loaded into the pilot's flight plan. The assigned hold is also displayed to the controller on radar for the selected aircraft.

This brings a common real-world ATC procedure into Infinite Flight and gives controllers and pilots another tool for managing traffic during busy operations.

Underneath all of this is a substantial update to LNAV guidance. We've reworked how LNAV follows the geometry of a flight path, resulting in smoother turn capture, better handling of short legs, and more stable rollouts after turns.

A Better SimBrief Experience

Importing a flight plan from SimBrief now gives you much more than a route.

Instead of presenting the imported information in one long message, Infinite Flight now opens a dedicated, scrollable briefing with organized sections covering your flight summary, load and fuel information, takeoff performance, route, and weather.

It keeps more of the useful information from your SimBrief briefing close at hand and makes it considerably easier to review before departure.

Runway Traffic Warnings

26.4 also introduces new runway traffic conflict warnings.

These can alert you when entering an occupied runway or when approaching a runway that is currently in use, providing another layer of situational awareness during ground operations.

To avoid unnecessary alerts when you're already working with ATC, runway conflict warnings are suppressed while tuned to the active Tower or Ground frequency.

Smoother Multiplayer and Replays

A lot of work in this update has gone into something that's difficult to capture in a screenshot: how other aircraft move.

We've made significant improvements to multiplayer aircraft smoothing, particularly during taxi, at low speeds, and when network updates are arriving less frequently.

Aircraft should now behave much more naturally when stopping, taxiing, taking off, and touching down. We've also improved how aircraft position and wing flex are represented on the ground and in the air.

For formation flyers, these changes should make nearby aircraft noticeably more stable.

They also address those moments where another aircraft could appear to sink into the ground during landing or otherwise move in ways that didn't quite match what the other pilot was doing.

Replay benefits from much of the same work, alongside improvements to seeking and playback. Moving around the replay timeline is now more reliable, with previews shown while dragging before the final seek is committed.

Years of Work Under the Hood

Some of the biggest changes in 26.4 aren't individual features at all.

Back in 2020, we wrote about Project Metal, an effort to modernize the rendering technology at the core of Infinite Flight. That project involved replacing technology that dated back to the earliest versions of the simulator and laying the groundwork for what we wanted Infinite Flight to become in the years ahead.

26.4 brings another major piece of that work into everyday use.

Metal is now the default rendering backend on iOS.

We've also introduced a new texture streaming system for aircraft and scenery. Rather than requiring all textures to remain loaded in memory, Infinite Flight can manage them more dynamically, helping reduce the simulator's overall memory footprint. This is particularly valuable in multiplayer, where a busy airport may require many different aircraft and liveries to be displayed at once.

New graphics options also provide greater control over rendering resolution and texture caching, while updated renderer upscaling gives us additional ways to balance image quality and performance across a wide range of devices.

These aren't necessarily the features you'll notice first when opening the update, but they're an important part of continuing to move Infinite Flight forward. Much of what we're able to build today depends on engineering work that began years earlier.

Push notifications have been introduced with opt-in alerts for AP+, Infinite Flight Live, organizations, invitations, flights, and weather warnings.

Android users should see faster aircraft downloads, iPad now supports all device orientations, and we've made several smaller interface refinements throughout the app.

We've also fixed a number of issues involving iOS audio, multiplayer aircraft appearing as "Unknown," replay loading and reconnection, jetbridge state in replays and after scenery reloads, and some USB controllers on Android.

26.4 represents a lot of work across almost every part of Infinite Flight. Some of it is immediately obvious the first time you reach up and touch a switch in the A321neo cockpit. Some of it you'll see stretching across the sky behind another aircraft. And some of it is deep inside the simulator, laying the groundwork for what comes next.

We're letting people in

Invitations are going out in batches. We're taking in as many people as we responsibly can while keeping this a controlled test, which means the pace is deliberate rather than fast. If you haven't heard from us yet, you're still in line. There's no set order we're publishing and no timeline we can promise, because we're adjusting as we watch how the Live world holds up.

How testing is going

Really well, and faster than we planned for.

More than 500 organizations have been created so far, 151 of them in the last month alone. Pilots are building fleets, setting up schedules, and flying for each other. The feedback coming back has been great, and a lot of it is already shaping what we build next.

We're still learning as we go, and the Live world keeps surprising us with what people do in it. Right now we're focused on making sure every flight is recorded exactly the way it was flown, and on polishing the rough edges as we find them. Every batch of pilots we let in makes the world busier and teaches us something new.

Infinite Flight 26.3 brings all three. From the arrival of the Airbus A350-1000 to expanded terrain coverage in the world's polar regions, plus an all-new Flight Assist mode, this update continues to build on the realism and accessibility of the simulator while introducing new places and aircraft to explore.

Welcome the Airbus A350-1000

Ever since the A350-900 joined the fleet, one question has come up time and time again: "When is the -1000 coming?" Today, that answer finally arrives.

As the largest member of Airbus' A350 family, the A35K has become the flagship aircraft for airlines around the world. Whether it's crossing the Atlantic with British Airways, connecting Australia with the world for Qantas, or flying ultra long-haul routes for Qatar Airways and Cathay Pacific, the aircraft has quickly earned its place among aviation enthusiasts.

The A350-1000 joins Infinite Flight with 13 liveries:

Project Sunrise Takes Flight

Among the included liveries is Qantas' VH-OJA "Vega", one of the airline's Airbus A350-1000ULRs destined for Project Sunrise. Designed to operate some of the world's longest commercial flights, these aircraft will enable nonstop services from Sydney to destinations like London and New York, pushing the boundaries of ultra long-haul travel.

Now you can experience those ambitious routes for yourself in Infinite Flight.

Flying North of 60... Again!

Back in 2022, we published an article called Flying North of 60, explaining why realistic terrain disappeared as you ventured farther north. At the time, the global elevation data available to us simply wasn't good enough to extend terrain into the polar regions.

This update changes that.

By combining multiple elevation datasets and carefully validating the results, we've been able to bring terrain to regions that were previously flat. It wasn't as simple as merging two maps together. Early attempts introduced obvious issues, including elevation data where oceans should have been perfectly flat. After plenty of refinement, the result is terrain that better reflects the real world across Earth's northernmost regions.

Whether you're island hopping around Iceland, exploring Greenland, flying through northern Canada, or crossing the Arctic on an intercontinental route, those flights will now look far more like they should.

Helping You Stay in Control

Learning to fly an aircraft manually takes practice. Managing pitch, bank, airspeed, and coordination all at once can feel overwhelming when you're just getting started.

That's where Flight Assist comes in.

New in 26.3, Flight Assist helps pilots maintain control by preventing excessive pitch and bank angles during manual flight. By reducing the risk of stalls, spins, and other loss of control situations, it provides an extra layer of confidence while still leaving you in command of the aircraft.

Whether you're taking off for the first time or simply want a little extra help while hand flying, Flight Assist makes it easier to focus on learning the fundamentals and enjoying the flight.

As a bonus helping hand, you can try using our on-screen joystick controls. Many users have found this to be a helpful way of maintaining control of the aircraft instead of tilting the device for pitch and roll movements. Head to control settings to configure your control mode and Flight Assist.

Beyond the headline features, 26.3 includes a number of improvements throughout the simulator.

Control setup has been refreshed and reorganized, overspeed and stall warnings have been refined to make them easier to notice, jet bridge door selection has been improved, and selecting parking positions should now feel much more reliable.

We've also fixed a variety of issues, including ATC speed assignments, parking location selection, accelerometer controls when external hardware is connected, map flickering while zooming, Chinese font downloads, and several other bugs that improve overall stability and performance.

The Airbus A330-800neo Arrives

The Airbus A330 family continues to grow in Infinite Flight with the addition of the A330-800neo.

While it shares many similarities with its larger sibling, the A330-900neo, the A330-800neo is one of the rarest modern widebody airliners currently in service. With only a handful of operators worldwide, it offers a unique mix of real-world routes. The aircraft launches with five liveries:

• Kuwait Airways
• Uganda Airlines
• Air Greenland
• Airbus House
• Generic

If you're looking for real-world inspiration, Kuwait Airways operates the largest A330-800neo fleet, serving destinations across Europe and Asia from Kuwait City. Uganda Airlines connects Entebbe with destinations such as London, Dubai, and Mumbai, while Air Greenland uses the aircraft on its iconic route between Nuuk and Copenhagen.

Of course, the Airbus House and Generic liveries open the door to even more possibilities, whether you're recreating delivery flights, test flights, charter operations, or building your own fictional network. Look for an A338 route blog article soon!

Jetbridges Go Multiplayer

One of the most visible additions in 26.2 is synchronized jetbridges.

For the first time, you'll see jetbridge movement from other pilots in multiplayer, adding another layer of activity and immersion to busy airports. Whether you're parked at a gate preparing for departure or watching traffic arrive around you, airports now feel more connected than ever.

Combined with existing passenger boarding features, synchronized jetbridges help bring airport operations to life in a way that's visible to everyone around you.

Ground Operations Continue to Evolve

Ground operations have come a long way in recent years, and 26.2 takes another step forward.

Our first animated fuel truck joins the growing list of available ground services, bringing additional activity to airports around the world. Like other ground services, it supports both multiplayer and replay mode.

Passenger boarding controls have also been expanded, giving you separate control over jetbridges and stairs, along with more flexibility when managing individual aircraft doors.

Supported aircraft also gain access to a Ground Power Unit (GPU), providing another option for managing aircraft systems while parked at the gate.

Better Tools for Flight Planning

Flight planning receives some long-requested improvements in 26.2.

The new Undo feature allows you to quickly reverse waypoint edits, altitude changes, procedure selections, and even accidentally clearing an entire flight plan. Whether you're building a complex route from scratch or making last-minute adjustments before departure, it's now easier to experiment without worrying about losing your work.

We've also refined several flight planning screens and layouts to create a more consistent experience throughout the simulator. Pilots can choose whether the Flight Plan navigation panel appears on the left or right side of the screen, making it easier to tailor the interface to their preferred workflow.
