Live isn't just a new feature. It's a new way to experience Infinite Flight. And when you introduce persistence into a flight simulator, people naturally start thinking about airports, organizations, ownership, and how an entire world works.

Today, we wanted to address some of the most common questions we've seen from the community.

Waitlist & Access

One of the biggest questions has been simple: how will access work?

Invitations will begin gradually as we continue testing and scaling the system. Access is not first come, first served, and selection is not based primarily on pilot grade or profile.

Our goal is to build Live carefully, gather feedback, and ensure a stable experience as we expand access over time. If you signed up for the waitlist, thank you. More pilots will join the skies as testing progresses.

Airport Congestion & Gate Availability

Persistence introduces a challenge that many of you immediately identified: what happens when airports fill up?

We're building systems to prevent gate hogging at high-demand airports and ensure arriving aircraft still have places to park. During major events or periods of congestion, aircraft may be moved dynamically into virtual hangars to keep airports functional and accessible.

Some smaller airports may also have additional rules when gate availability is limited.

Our goal is to strike the right balance between realism and usability.

Are Virtual Airlines Being Replaced?

No.

Live is designed to expand the ways people fly together, not replace the communities that already exist.

We do not plan to designate "official" airlines, nor do we intend to prevent multiple organizations from using similar identities. Existing Virtual Airlines remain an important part of the Infinite Flight community, and Live creates new opportunities for them rather than replacing them.

Is Live Replacing Infinite Flight?

Also no.

The Expert Server isn't going anywhere, and not every pilot will choose to use Live. For now, however, Live will exist only on the Expert Server. We may expand this down the road.

Live is an additional experience within Infinite Flight. You can continue flying the way you do today, or step into a persistent world when you're ready.

Aircraft Ownership & Permissions

Another common question has been: Can someone steal my aircraft?

No.

Only you, and members of your organization when permitted, can access your aircraft. We're also exploring future options such as temporary guest access for specific scenarios, like ferry flights.

Maintenance, Damage & Wear

Persistence naturally leads to questions about maintenance, wear, and long-term consequences.

At launch, aircraft maintenance and wear systems will not be part of Live. Crashes and incidents are recorded, but aircraft damage and maintenance mechanics are not currently planned for the initial release.

That said, maintenance systems are something we're actively exploring for future versions.

What About AutoPilot+?

AutoPilot+ works in Live just as it does today.

For now, stopped AP+ flights remain stopped indefinitely. In the future, we may introduce additional systems to return inactive aircraft to their origin airport after extended periods of inactivity.

We're also continuing to improve weather simulation over time, including winds.

One thing became very clear after reading thousands of comments: many of you aren't thinking about Live as a feature. You're thinking about it as a world.

That's exciting.

Live represents a new chapter for Infinite Flight, and while we won't have every answer on day one, we're building this world alongside the community that inspired it.

Lifts deserve their own spotlight, so we'll discuss that ecosystem in a follow-up article. Thank you for the questions, feedback, and enthusiasm. We're just getting started.

A world that remembers

Over the past year, some of you have noticed aircraft in multiplayer that behaved a little differently.

Parked at gates. Sitting on ramps. Still there after the session ended. Sometimes appearing again days later, in the same place or somewhere entirely different because someone had flown them there.

A few of you figured out that we were testing something new.

From the beginning, Infinite Flight has been about making aviation accessible anywhere. Over time, Infinite Flight Live has grown from shared skies and live traffic into a community with ATC, ranks, servers, procedures, events, and pilots who care deeply about how they fly.

This next iteration builds on that foundation.

Infinite Flight Live is becoming a persistent world where aircraft do not simply appear for a single session and vanish when it ends. They can have a location, a history, an owner, a schedule, and a reason to be flown.

Why this feels different

After flying this way during development, it changed how I would think about every session.

I no longer open Infinite Flight and start with a blank slate. I open it and the world is already there. My aircraft are where they were left. Shared fleet aircraft are waiting for their next assignment. Some are parked at hubs. Some are away from base.

Some aircraft are halfway around the world because another pilot flew them there last week.

The first question is no longer only, “Where do I want to fly?” It becomes, “What needs to happen next?”

Maybe a widebody needs to be repositioned. Maybe there is an open flight in an organization schedule. Maybe an aircraft has been sitting at an outstation and it's time to bring it home. Maybe the weather makes one route a better choice than another.

There is always a next flight, and it does not disappear when the app closes.

One of the first moments this really clicked for me involved two aircraft.

In one of our earliest test fleets, the first aircraft I added was N1TG, a 777-200ER in the Infinite Flight livery. It entered the world at Paine Field in Washington State. The second was N1XC, an A318 delivered from Toulouse.

Once our servers could support true ground persistence, I wanted to see those two aircraft meet.

I flew N1TG to Paris Charles de Gaulle, where I had left N1XC after its delivery flight. On final, I saw it. The A318, parked exactly where I left it. I landed, taxied over, and parked beside it.

Nothing dramatic happened on screen. Two aircraft were sitting next to each other at an airport.

But it felt different.

Those aircraft had history now. They were not just selections from a menu. They had been delivered, flown, parked, and remembered by this new persistent world. They would stay there until someone moved them.

That was the moment persistence stopped feeling like a system and started feeling like the next version of Live.

What persistence means

In this new Live mode, aircraft persist in the world.

They stay where they are parked. They remain associated with the fleets and organizations that operate them. When an aircraft needs to be somewhere else, it needs to be flown there.

That one rule changes a lot.

New fleet aircraft enter the world at an appropriate delivery airport. The first flight is not just another flight; it is a delivery. From there, the aircraft begins building its own history.

During testing, we watched pilots coordinate long repositioning flights, refueling stops, and multi-leg operations that would not have mattered in a non-persistent world. Aircraft could no longer be treated as disposable, in disposable sessions. Their locations mattered. Their range mattered. The route mattered. The pilots available to fly mattered.

Weather matters more too.

When conditions are challenging, the decision is not just whether you can complete the approach. It is whether this is the right aircraft, the right airport, and the right pilot for the job. Severe weather can create a real reason to reposition aircraft, delay flights, or change plans.

Early in testing, we were ferrying a group of A320s from Toulouse to their hub in New York when weather began moving into the East Coast. The aircraft were already enroute, so we had a decision to make: continue toward LaGuardia or divert, park the aircraft somewhere safer, and wait it out.

If we continued, who would fly the arrival? These were new aircraft on their first flights. Nobody wanted to be the one to put the first snag in the logbook.

That is the kind of moment persistence creates. Not because of a scripted mission, but because the persistent world keeps track of what happened.

Organizations and shared fleets

Persistence becomes even more interesting when people work together.

Organizations allow pilots to create and manage shared operations, including fleets, schedules, aircraft assignments, and permissions. A small group can run a regional operation. A large group can coordinate flights across time zones. A solo pilot can create a private organization and manage a personal fleet.

The system is flexible by design.

An organization can be a virtual airline, a private fleet, a cargo operation, a training group, or something the community invents after launch. Pilots can fly available aircraft, follow scheduled routes, and help keep the operation moving. Longer flights can be handled across time zones, with crews coordinating who takes the aircraft next.

The important part is that the aircraft belong to a world that continues beyond one session.

A flight is no longer isolated. It becomes part of an operation.

AutoPilot+ and Auto Exit

Some of the tools built for persistence are already in the app today.

AutoPilot+ and Auto Exit started as answers to a simple problem: in a world that remembers aircraft, long flights need protection. Real life interrupts, connections drop, and plans change. In a persistent world, an aircraft should not overshoot its destination or end up somewhere unintended because nobody was there at the right moment.

AutoPilot+ gives pilots and crews more time to return as arrival approaches. Auto Exit provides a cleaner way to end a session when nobody is available to continue.

We built these features for the demands of the next version of Live, but they proved useful for everyday flying too. So we brought them into the main app along the way. Persistence is already improving Infinite Flight before it fully arrives.

Building something sustainable

A persistent world needs persistent communities. As organizations grow, we need a way to support growth that remains fair and sustainable. Let's get technical.

To support persistence in Live, we are introducing Lifts.

Every Pro subscriber will receive Lifts that can be allocated to organizations. As members contribute Lifts, organizations can grow and unlock additional capacity and perks. A solo pilot can use Lifts for a personal operation. A small team can pool enough to run a focused fleet. A larger organization can grow by bringing more members together.

Organizations will be able to decide how they want to operate. Some will stay small and simple. Others will coordinate many pilots, many aircraft, and larger networks.

That flexibility is important to us.

An organization should not just be a name on a list. It should be something pilots build together. The aircraft, the schedules, the routes, and the history will all matter because the persistent world remembers them.

We will offer additional ways to purchase and acquire Lifts for pilots and organizations that want to expand further, and we will share more details as launch approaches.

A foundation for what comes next

This first version is the foundation.

Persistent aircraft make new kinds of experiences possible: dispatch tools, fleet management systems, airline-style operations, analytics, planning tools, community events, and ideas we have not thought of yet.

Over time, we plan to open APIs so third-party developers can build on top of this world. Infinite Flight has always been shaped by its community, and we expect this next chapter of Live to be no different.

We are building the infrastructure. The community will help define what grows from it.

The Airbus A330-800neo Arrives

The Airbus A330 family continues to grow in Infinite Flight with the addition of the A330-800neo.

While it shares many similarities with its larger sibling, the A330-900neo, the A330-800neo is one of the rarest modern widebody airliners currently in service. With only a handful of operators worldwide, it offers a unique mix of real-world routes. The aircraft launches with five liveries:

• Kuwait Airways
• Uganda Airlines
• Air Greenland
• Airbus House
• Generic

If you're looking for real-world inspiration, Kuwait Airways operates the largest A330-800neo fleet, serving destinations across Europe and Asia from Kuwait City. Uganda Airlines connects Entebbe with destinations such as London, Dubai, and Mumbai, while Air Greenland uses the aircraft on its iconic route between Nuuk and Copenhagen.

Of course, the Airbus House and Generic liveries open the door to even more possibilities, whether you're recreating delivery flights, test flights, charter operations, or building your own fictional network. Look for an A338 route blog article soon!

Jetbridges Go Multiplayer

One of the most visible additions in 26.2 is synchronized jetbridges.

For the first time, you'll see jetbridge movement from other pilots in multiplayer, adding another layer of activity and immersion to busy airports. Whether you're parked at a gate preparing for departure or watching traffic arrive around you, airports now feel more connected than ever.

Combined with existing passenger boarding features, synchronized jetbridges help bring airport operations to life in a way that's visible to everyone around you.

Ground Operations Continue to Evolve

Ground operations have come a long way in recent years, and 26.2 takes another step forward.

Our first animated fuel truck joins the growing list of available ground services, bringing additional activity to airports around the world. Like other ground services, it supports both multiplayer and replay mode.

Passenger boarding controls have also been expanded, giving you separate control over jetbridges and stairs, along with more flexibility when managing individual aircraft doors.

Supported aircraft also gain access to a Ground Power Unit (GPU), providing another option for managing aircraft systems while parked at the gate.

Better Tools for Flight Planning

Flight planning receives some long-requested improvements in 26.2.

The new Undo feature allows you to quickly reverse waypoint edits, altitude changes, procedure selections, and even accidentally clearing an entire flight plan. Whether you're building a complex route from scratch or making last-minute adjustments before departure, it's now easier to experiment without worrying about losing your work.

We've also refined several flight planning screens and layouts to create a more consistent experience throughout the simulator. Pilots can choose whether the Flight Plan navigation panel appears on the left or right side of the screen, making it easier to tailor the interface to their preferred workflow.

Alongside the A330-800neo, several new liveries have been added across the fleet:

While 26.1 was centered around major foundational changes like the new rendering system and content pipeline, the current beta cycle has shifted toward improving day-to-day usability, expanding ground operations, and continuing to polish the experience across the simulator.

One of the biggest additions in the latest 26.2 beta builds is a significant expansion of Ground Services. What started with basic support equipment is quickly becoming a more detailed and interactive part of the Infinite Flight.

Ground Services Continue to Grow

Recent builds introduce expanded GPU (Ground Power Unit) support across more aircraft, complete with an external power switch and availability indicators integrated into aircraft electrical systems. This brings more realism to aircraft startup procedures and adds another layer to preflight operations.

Ground Service Equipment itself has also received major improvements in the latest 26.2 build:

• Jetbridges and stairs now live in separate flyout menus
• Jetbridges can dock to specific aircraft doors
• Stairs can now be used independently alongside jetbridges
• Cargo operations now better match aircraft type and door configuration
• New animations and sequencing improvements make service vehicles behave more realistically

Widebody aircraft now use pallet loaders where appropriate, while narrowbody aircraft favor belt loaders and rear cargo access. Vehicles also interact with aircraft more intelligently, including opening cargo doors automatically before positioning equipment.

A visual fuel truck has also been added as groundwork for future expansion of the system.

Navigation and Flight Planning Improvements

Another major area of focus since 26.1 has been improving in-flight usability and reducing friction while managing flights.

A new Navigation Panel was introduced to improve in-game flight plan management, with the option to place the panel on either side of the screen depending on personal preference and device setup.

Additional improvements across recent builds include:

• Flight plan undo fixes
• Better context menu readability
• Scrollable context menus
• Improvements to long menu labels
• Continued refinements to flight plan editing workflows

These changes build on the larger flight planning improvements introduced during the 26.1 Open Beta cycle and continue moving toward a faster, more flexible in-flight experience.

Performance and Stability

A large portion of recent Open Beta work has focused on performance and stability improvements across both iOS and Android.

Recent builds reduced loading freezes, improved startup performance, and refined in-flight UI responsiveness. Platform text input and controller support also received updates to improve reliability across devices.

A New “What’s New” Section

The latest 26.2 build also introduces a new “What’s New” section inside the app menu. This area highlights major additions and changes included in each update, making it easier to quickly catch up on what’s changed after updating Infinite Flight.

Progress has also been shaped by our recent focus on delivering the new rendering system. With that now shipped, aircraft production can move forward with fewer interruptions. The team has also been working across multiple aircraft in parallel, including the A321neo and the Boeing 787, which has divided development time but reflects a broader ramp-up in production.

The Boeing 787 program has reached a major milestone. The 3D model is finalized, and UV maps are complete across all three fuselage variants. Work has now moved into texturing, with several areas already nearing completion. This is one of the first large-scale aircraft projects to fully benefit from the new pipeline, and it highlights the efficiency gains now in place.

A321neo Development

For the A321neo, the 3D model is complete and UV mapping is largely finalized. Texturing is now underway, with early results showing high detail across both the cockpit and exterior, including dirt mapping and fine surface features. Earlier in development, we shared cockpit previews that were created in-house. That work has since been handed off to the new team, which introduced additional coordination and integration time.

Alongside the NEO updates, we have added the Airbus A350-1000 as a soft rework. Built from our existing A350-900 model, the fuselage was extended and the -1000 landing gear configuration added without requiring a full geometry rebuild. As a result, some known limitations remain for now, including cockpit window proportions and other smaller details. This allowed us to bring the variant into the fleet efficiently while keeping focus on new aircraft development.

With the new pipeline now in place and teams more familiar with the workflow, aircraft development is expected to progress more quickly from here.

And it's finally here.

This update introduces a new rendering system, the first aircraft built through our new modelling partnerships, improvements to our aircraft content pipeline, and a number of updates to the flying experience across the app. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights.

New Rendering System

Graphics and lighting overhaul

One of the biggest changes in Infinite Flight 26.1 is a completely rebuilt graphics engine. This new foundation makes it easier to deliver more realistic visuals, while also supporting more advanced visual improvements in future updates.

As part of this work, the renderer now uses photometric units, which allows lighting to behave in a more realistic and consistent way across different conditions. The update also improves how the atmosphere and clouds are rendered, making the sky feel more natural today while laying the groundwork for more advanced weather systems later on.

To further improve immersion, Infinite Flight 26.1 also adds real-time shadows for aircraft and ground service equipment. Taken together, these changes improve visual clarity and make the world feel more believable, cohesive, and alive throughout the flight experience.

A New Aircraft Development Approach

Introducing the PA-28 Archer II

Infinite Flight 26.1 also introduces the Piper PA-28 Archer II, the first aircraft created through a new aircraft development approach with additional modelling partners.

This new process allows us to scale aircraft creation while maintaining the level of detail and quality Infinite Flight pilots expect. The PA-28 Archer II represents the beginning of that effort, featuring a high-fidelity model designed to serve as the foundation for future aircraft built through this pipeline.

It also fills an important role in the fleet as a versatile general aviation aircraft that’s ideal for training, shorter flights, and exploring the world at lower altitudes.

Improving How We Build and Maintain Aircraft

The A330-200

The Airbus A330-200 joins the Infinite Flight fleet in this release as well, but its story is closely tied to another major change happening behind the scenes.

Recent work on our new content pipeline makes it easier for our team to update and maintain aircraft across the simulator. Instead of large, time-consuming updates, this pipeline allows us to make improvements more efficiently while keeping aircraft consistent with the evolving platform. This is what allows us to move faster on both new aircraft and variants going forward.

The A330-200 is one of the first aircraft to benefit from this improved internal workflow and expands the long-haul Airbus lineup with a versatile widebody used by airlines around the world.

Flight Debrief

New post-flight insights

Infinite Flight 26.1 introduces a new Flight Debrief screen that provides a clearer summary of how each flight went.

After landing, pilots can review important details such as landing performance, distance flown, fuel usage, and other key statistics. This new system also improves how AP+ sessions are tracked, giving a more accurate view of flights that continue in the background.

The Flight Debrief is the first step toward a broader improvement to flight statistics and tracking within Infinite Flight as we gather data. Future updates will continue building on this foundation with additional insights and features.

Improvements for Expert Server Operations

Several improvements in this release focus on the Expert Server experience, with updates aimed at improving realism and reducing common operational issues.

Taxi operations now better reflect real-world airport procedures with speed limits applied in appropriate areas of the airport environment. Work has also been done to improve runway incursion detection and reduce false warnings during complex ground operations.

These changes are part of a broader effort to refine multiplayer operations on the Expert Server, and we’ll continue listening to feedback from the community as we expand on these systems.

Navigation and Flight Planning Improvements

Infinite Flight 26.1 also includes several updates to navigation and flight planning tools. Updates include drag-and-drop flight plan waypoints, improved procedure selection, and route drag to add waypoints.

Procedures and map interactions have been improved, making it easier to plan routes and interact with the map during flight preparation. These updates are part of our ongoing effort to make flight planning both powerful and easy to use for pilots of all experience levels.

You’ll also find a redesigned aircraft selection experience, along with improvements to navigation workflows and in-app tools that make starting a flight quicker and more intuitive. These updates are a step toward future pre-flight planning tools.

ATC Schedule Integration

This release also introduces in-app access to the Infinite Flight ATC schedule, making it easier to see when and where official ATC coverage is planned. This feature connects directly with the schedule published on the Infinite Flight website and helps pilots better plan their flights around active airspace.

Minimum Requirements for 26.1

To support new features and ongoing improvements, Infinite Flight 26.1 requires updated minimum device specifications. We make these changes carefully and always try to remain mindful of users on older devices.

iPhone and iPad
Infinite Flight 26.1 now requires iOS/iPadOS 17.0 or later.
This means the following Apple devices are no longer supported:
- iPhone: iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPhone SE (1st generation)
- iPad: iPad mini 4, iPad Air 2, iPad (5th generation), iPad Pro 9.7-inch, iPad Pro 12.9-inch (1st generation)

Android
On Android, 26.1 will require Android 10 and will no longer include support for the x86_64 architecture. This primarily affects Android emulators (which were never *officially* supported and often not working on previous versions) and other x86_64-based Android environments. Most Android phones and tablets use ARM-based processors and are not affected. We still want to properly support emulators down the road.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve continued to iterate quickly across rendering, UI, ATC, and overall stability. This phase of the Open Beta has been less about introducing entirely new systems, and more about refining how everything works together in real scenarios.

A few areas in particular have seen meaningful progress.

Rendering & Visual Improvements

We’ve continued tuning the new rendering system, with a focus on consistency and clarity across a wide range of conditions.

Lighting and exposure have been adjusted to better handle transitions around dawn and dusk, while updates to fog, haze, and aerial perspective improve how scenes read at altitude and in varying weather conditions.

Shadow rendering has also been pushed further, with higher resolution, increased range, and improved visibility at distance. As part of ongoing testing, dynamic shadows are now being enabled on other aircraft as well, which helps us evaluate performance and visual impact at scale.

Runway Awareness & ATC Quality of Life

Runway incursion warnings are now in place, adding both visual and audio cues when approaching or entering a runway. This brings more situational awareness during taxi, especially in busier environments.

On the ATC side, we’ve introduced improved Send & Assign Autopilot behavior. When a controller issues a heading or altitude, the aircraft now automatically switches to the appropriate mode, ensuring the instruction is followed immediately and correctly. LNAV and VNAV are disabled as needed, and a notification confirms the change, making these interactions clearer and more reliable in busy environments.

Aircraft Selection & UI

The aircraft selection experience continues to evolve. Layout, spacing, and navigation have all been refined, with a shift toward faster browsing and clearer structure as the fleet grows.

Manufacturer categories have been introduced to make it easier to navigate larger aircraft lists, and the system now remembers your last selected aircraft and livery for a more seamless return experience.

This area is still actively being worked on, and you can expect further iteration in upcoming beta builds.

Stability & Performance

A significant portion of recent work has focused on reducing stutters, improving memory usage, and increasing stability during longer sessions and in high-traffic areas.

We’ve also introduced safeguards for lower-memory devices to help maintain a more consistent experience, along with additional compatibility checks on certain Android GPU drivers.

Here’s a peek at what changed, why it matters, and what it unlocks next.

Why rework the pipeline now?

Infinite Flight’s earliest content pipeline dates back to our Windows Phone era (remember those?). It served us well, but a lot has changed in real-time rendering and tooling since then. As our fleet grew, the older process made it harder to move quickly, maintain consistency, and iterate on feedback.

Our goals for the new pipeline were simple:

• Accelerate the release of new aircraft and updates to existing ones.
• Adopt open standards so our tools are more future-proof and easier to automate.
• Improve consistency in materials, lighting, and LODs across the fleet.

What’s new under the hood

Centered on glTF

The new pipeline is built around glTF, a widely used open format designed for efficient delivery of 3D content. By making glTF the foundation of our workflow, we’ve reduced the need for custom converters and one-off steps, meaning fewer surprises and faster builds.

Cleaner handoffs, fewer manual steps

We’ve streamlined the flow from artist deliverables → validation → optimization → in-sim testing. Automated checks now catch common issues early (naming, scales, missing maps), and our build system packages assets in a predictable, repeatable way.

Smarter optimization

We’ve standardized on modern material workflows and texture packing so aircraft render consistently while staying performant on a range of devices. This also makes LOD (level of detail) tuning and draw-call budgeting more straightforward for the team.

Better iteration loops

Since everything works more reliably, it’s easier for our team to test fixes and update aircraft without delays. When our artists or QA engineers report a fix, we can cut new builds quickly and verify changes in-sim without babysitting long, fragile export chains.

Refining our new rendering architecture

This new content pipeline is closely tied to our ongoing work on our long-term effort to modernize Infinite Flight’s internal rendering architecture. Our content pipeline is a vital part of our upgraded rendering engine, and it is a necessary piece of the puzzle to ensure we are ready for the next generation of lighting, materials, and visual fidelity.

About that Piper PA-28…

A few months ago, we announced the Piper PA-28, which was an unexpected one for many of you. It’s also the first aircraft to ship through our new content pipeline, which is why it’s taken a little longer than usual. We deliberately chose a smaller, less complex aircraft so we could fine-tune the new system before applying it to bigger projects.

What this means for you

• Faster deliverables: Once the PA-28 and pipeline land, you should see smoother, more predictable aircraft releases and updates.
• Consistency & quality: Materials and lighting should feel more uniform across the fleet, especially as we revisit older airframes.

Timeline & what’s next

• PA-28 + new pipeline: Targeting later this year as part of 25.3.
• A321 & B787: Already well into production using the new pipeline. Progress will continue in parallel, and the lessons from PA-28 will help us move faster here.
• Cosmetic fixes for existing aircraft: Our artists have been secretly combing through the existing list of aircraft livery and other aircraft issues in preparation for the new pipeline, which will be released in 25.2!
• We’ll share more shots and notes as we lock things down and move toward release.

In March, we announced a new feature that will allow pilots to start a flight anytime, even when having time to complete it is in question.  We know life can get in the way, and AutoPilot+ is here to help. Whether you're pulled away unexpectedly or simply can't stay online for the entire flight, AutoPilot+ steps in to keep your aircraft safely flying so you can pick up where you left off. We'll pause your flight with 30 minutes to go and keep it available for 48 hours.

User Interface improvements

With each release, we move closer to an ecosystem where most or all of your flight planning can be done before pressing the FLY button. As we iterate on our main menu UI, you'll notice that for 25.1, we've added new ways to change the time and date, weather, and airport selection. The airport selection now shows ATC and runway information, which will pave the way for more flight-planning tools down the road.

There are many reasons you might not be able to continue your flight in real time. Maybe you've been pulled into a meeting, or your device's battery is lower than you anticipated. Maybe you need your device for something else. Or, maybe even starting the flight is out of the question because you know you don't have time to finish it. Whatever the case, now you'll be able to safely end your session while the flight carries on in the background.

Introducing AutoPilot+

AutoPilot+ is an iteration of Flight Resume, which would previously allow pilots to pick up where they left off if certain criteria were met. Now with AutoPilot+, you can exit to the main menu, and, provided your flight meets the required criteria, it will continue along your filed route.

While others in Infinite Flight can see your flight cruising in the background, you can step away. Best of all, since your flight is stored on our servers, you can pick it back up from any of your devices—no more tying up your tablet overnight or draining your phone battery.

When you are ready to continue, simply select CONTINUE FLIGHT from the AutoPilot+ area of the mode selection on the main menu. You'll resume wherever your flight is along your route. If you can't return as soon as you thought, we have you covered. The flight will pause once your flight reaches approximately 30 minutes remaining of the Estimated Time En route (ETE). Think of it as a virtual holding pattern, where your aircraft waits for you to return for up to 48 hours.

AutoPilot+ Criteria

To ensure the smoothest experience for everyone, certain conditions must be met for us to save your flight with AutoPilot+:

• Aircraft Altitude must be at least 28,000 feet MSL for jets, and 7,000 feet MSL for props
• Aircraft must be in level flight (not climbing or descending)
• A flight plan must be filed
• Autopilot and LNAV must be engaged
• Aircraft must be on the flight plan track
• ETE to destination must be greater than 30 minutes

In addition to continuing your flight in the background, you can start another flight or ATC session in any mode. Rather than stare out the window on a trans-continental flight for hours, you can head to your favorite small field to practice pattern work, fly with friends, join an Infinite Flight community event, or control the skies! Your option to continue the previously saved flight will still be available.

There are a few ways to see when your flight was last saved to the server. The map—and the mini-map—will show a blue aircraft icon at your flight's last-saved position. In addition, you can see how long it's been since your flight's last save by adding the "Last Save" option to the status bar.

We're excited for you to try AutoPilot+ and log even more hours in the Infinite Flight skies! This feature will ship with Infinite Flight 25.1. If you're new to Infinite Flight, check out our User Guide and YouTube channel for helpful tutorials.

MAX 8

We put the MAX and NEO series to a community vote and the MAX came out on top. Delivering on that promise, we've released a brand-new model with the fully animated flight deck our users have come to expect, a new MAX 8 glass panel, roll spoilers, and a complete cabin with galleys. This aircraft is complimented by 37 paint schemes, including the Boeing House and Infinite Flight carbon liveries, with more liveries coming in a future update.

Auto Pushback

A highly-requested feature that has made its way into Infinite Flight 24.4 is the all-new Auto Pushback. When you're starting up and preparing to taxi and takeoff, you don't always want to simulate the role of pushback tug driver. This is where Auto Pushback will come in handy. Choose up to two positions on the taxiway to initiate the push, and Auto Pushback will take care of the rest. You can even push back and pull to your final location at those tricky-to-maneuver airports! This feature works when ATC is present as well. Check out our how-to tutorial video for more.

Map and UI improvements

We're always making efforts to improve the user experience. New aircraft are the exciting part of any release, but improving the journey for the user is just as important. In this release, we've given some attention to our user interface and map screens. With a new pause menu to match the main menu and new controls throughout, we're streamlining the way you interact with the app.

Upper winds

Any good pilot will make the passenger journey as comfortable as possible. Our map has some new features including upper winds to help you plan your flight, and update your route as you go. The new Winds map control above the map settings icon allows you to choose from surface winds all the way up to FL430. Setting the winds to auto will give you winds at your altitude.

Airport and Procedures

Airport maps have been given some attention with larger runway number indicators in their red and green colors to indicate the best runway for wind conditions. Procedures have also received some improvements, with new groupings by runway, again with the best runway based on winds on display for that airport.

Updates to Missions

Since launching our missions section in a previous release, we've learned more about how pilots are using the app. In 24.3, the Missions page is being replaced with a curated set of challenging scenarios that will evolve over time. Try your hand at flying the Mach Loop or the visual approach into Paro. Our Missions page will continue to evolve to offer events and more. Not a Pro subscriber? There may even be something for you in a future update!

Infinite Flight goes social

For pilots who have wished they could follow their friends or other users, your day has come! Now, tapping your user profile from the main menu will show your stats, followers, and other pilots you're following.  Tapping the gear icon is also where you'll now find your account settings.

By following other users, you can see their stats, and when they are active in Infinite Flight. Easily join people you follow on flights, and never miss out on the fun. Adding users can be done via the account screen from the main menu using the search bar at the bottom, or from the map by tapping a user and viewing their account profile.

SimBrief Integration

Users of SimBrief by Navigraph now have the option of importing their flights into Infinite Flight at the touch of a button. All applicable values from SimBrief, including origin/destination, aircraft, waypoints, weight and balance, and more will automatically imported into your flight. Easily connect your SimBrief account from the new account settings page on the main menu via your user profile.

Note that both SimBrief integration and EFB Link are now available only to users with an Infinite Flight Pro subscription.

Improved multiplayer experience

A lot of work and care has gone into making an even better experience for pilots and controllers on our multiplayer servers. 24.3 features brand-new servers that will offer more stability and make way for future improvements and enhancements. Due to the level of changes made, traffic on the new servers will not be seen by users on previous versions of Infinite Flight and vice versa. A380 Super Jumbo

The King, The Whale, the mighty A380 from Airbus. Few passenger aircraft are as awe-inspiring or shockingly huge up close as this king of the skies. Our community was polled to decide the next heavy aircraft rework in the Battle of the Heavies. The B767 and A380 were chosen in a 2-round vote and the A380 emerged victorious. We knew the wait would be long due to the sheer size and detail of this massive bird, and that wait is now over.

The reworked A380 includes all of the same features as other modern Infinite Flight aircraft, including wing flex and gear tilt, live cockpit, and functional APU. Two engine variants—The EA GP7000 and Rolls Royce Trent 970—are included depending on the operator chosen.

To complement the A380 but also the entire Airbus fleet, we've added manufacturer-appropriate GPWS callouts. These include stall warnings, radio altimeter indications, and autopilot disconnect chimes.

Replay Auto-Delete

Your device space is precious but so are your replay files! Space management can be an arduous task so we've added a feature to help you out; Replay Auto-Delete. If you're a returning Infinite Flight user you'll notice a new message when visiting your logbook, asking if you'd like to turn on Auto-Delete. You can also lock specific replays, protecting them from auto removal. And as always, you can keep those special replays by exporting them to your device or the cloud.

UI Improvements

In our constant effort to optimize and improve the user interface in Infinite Flight, you'll notice an improved mode selection screen in 24.2. With the future implementation of additional flight training scenarios, we're keeping the mode selection as streamlined as possible.  Look for the new flight training scenario screen and more being added to this section in upcoming Infinite Flight releases.

And speaking of user interface improvements, you can now pre-select your date and time of day from the info card when selecting your airport and aircraft. This is an important step toward giving you more configuration before starting flights.

Grade Requirement Changes

As announced in a previous blog article, we've removed the 90-day flight time and landing requirement for grades 3 and below. This means that if you have to take some time off, you won't lose your progress either working toward or keeping your expert server requirements!

The problem some pilots faced with our grade system is that although they worked hard and flew a lot to achieve a grade (especially that coveted Grade 3 for Expert Server access), something caused them to take a break, or not fly as much. Subsequently, after 90 days they would be moved down a grade and potentially lose the access they had.

What's changing?

Effective in 24.2, we are removing both the 90-day requirement for flight time and landing counts for grades 3 and below. This means if you have worked hard to fly on the expert server but you're unable to fly for an extended period, you will not lose this access!

This change is retroactive, meaning if the 90-day limit impacted you, it will be removed, and your grade will automatically be adjusted provided you meet the rest of the requirements for that grade (eg: your violation to landing ratio hasn't increased outside of limits).

Flight Resume

Easily picking a flight up where you left off in a multiplayer flight simulator has been virtually unheard of. Until now. The challenges to aircraft "reappearing" in a multiplayer environment with other aircraft and ATC are obvious. This could cause confusion, and potentially impact the positive experiences of others. To combat this, we've implemented a way to resume your flight provided some basic criteria are met during the initial flight. We've fully outlined this feature in our article, Feature Highlight: Flight Resume.

Flight Resume will also be available in Solo Mode under a different set of criteria, making this feature available to all Infinite Flight users. Our team will continue to tweak and improve Flight Resume based on usage and feedback.

ATC Additions and Improvements

We have some fantastic improvements coming for pilots and controllers on the ATC side this time around.

Drag & Taxi

Recently, our beta testers may have given you specific taxi instructions that were a result of our new drag and taxi feature.  This gives controllers an interactive way to issue taxi clearances visually. Not only will drag and taxi suggest the fastest routes, but it will also automatically generate hold short instructions for runway crossings, and controllers will be able to change routing and issue intermediate routes when the most advantageous route isn't yet known.

This feature is available to controllers on the expert server for now. We plan to roll this out on the training server in the next update. We've created an instructional video outlining all of the drag and taxi features that both ATC and pilots can enjoy in 24.1!

Here are some other great additions to ATC for 24.1:

• Added automatic or manual aircraft tag placement on the ATC map
• Added an option for pilots to request a diversion to another airport
• Added ATC collision alert warnings (visual and audible)
• ATC can advertise the expected approach to the ATIS
• Added ATC sequencing options
• Added ATC memory aid with colored aircraft labels
• Added “go around, fly runway heading” instruction
• Added placement option for aircraft labels in ATC mode

We've also added some ATC improvements for this release that include:

• Taxi to an intermediate hold will not send “contact tower when ready”
• Taxi instructions to a hold close to a runway will auto-add the runway
• “Red” runways now also shown in the quick taxi instructions

The problem

It has happened to all of us. We suddenly realize we can't finish our flight because the responsibilities of life are bearing down on us. Maybe we've started that long haul but we now realize we won't be around to finish it. Maybe the 12-foot charging cable we got from Wish isn't cutting it. Or maybe in taking that phone call, our device decided we didn't need that other app anymore. Whatever the scenario, it sure would be nice to pick up where we left off.

The solution

In Infinite Flight 24.1, we're introducing Flight Resume. If your current flight meets certain criteria, you'll be able to resume it exactly how you left it in the event of any interruption (voluntary or not). This feature is not only available in single-player but also in multiplayer; a first in the world of flight simulation. Here are the criteria required for Flight Resume to activate and stay active:

Solo

• Your altitude must be 5,000ft AMSL or greater
• You must be in level flight

Multiplayer

• Your altitude must be 28,000ft AMSL or greater
• You must be in level flight
• LNAV must be activated
• Your estimated time en route (ETE) to your destination must be 30 minutes or greater
• You must be on your flight plan track

To not cause chaos for other pilots or ATC in multiplayer, we've taken special care to create criteria that will allow for smooth re-entry into your flight.

These criteria will help ensure that your flight doesn't resume in the vicinity of a busy airport or in a congested airspace.

The gameplan

We're looking forward to sharing this with you soon in 24.1! You might be wondering why this isn't being announced for an end-of-year release. Our developers have been working away behind the scenes on an Android subscription code-base rework that was required by Google for this release (which will help pave the way for some new Android and iOS integrations down the road).  While this update is feature complete, there are final testing efforts underway to fix some remaining bugs.

Our artists have also been working hard on the A380 which is, well, a very large aircraft requiring a lot of model components. We'll continue to share progress on our social media channels, but until then, we're excited to bring you Flight Resume, along with some bug fixes, new 3D airports, and new liveries in 24.1!

Taxiway Line Colors: Guidance on the Ground

Every detail counts when it comes to realism in aviation, and we've taken another step forward. Our updated taxiway line colors aren’t just aesthetically pleasing; they play a pivotal role in ensuring pilots understand airport guidelines, enhancing both safety and authenticity.

Navigating the bustling environment of an airport is not limited to the skies. Once an aircraft touches down or is preparing for taxi or takeoff, the complex labyrinth of taxiways becomes the pilot's immediate focus. That's where taxiway line colors come into play. These lines, differentiated by their colors, are critical in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of aircraft on the ground.

UI and Device Enhancements

Recognizing the diverse array of devices our community uses, we've made significant improvements. First-Time Experience: New users will find the UI more welcoming, regardless of device size.

• Display Zoom on iOS: This feature now ensures clarity and precision, making flight planning and navigation a breeze, especially on smaller devices.
• Samsung Dex & Android Desktop: Enjoy a PC-like experience on your mobile device! This is a game-changer for Android users wanting a more immersive flight environment.

Controller Support Upgrades

We’ve ramped up our controller support with improved axes and button binding for precision control. When plugging or unplugging controls, we'll remember what you set last time, removing the need to bind them over and over. Your device-specific settings will ensure a more tailored experience. We’ve even included presets for select devices, making setup seamless.

Technical Deep Dive

This release also comes with a lot of internal changes that are aimed to support future improvements. Those who have been following our development blogs and streams closely might remember that Infinite Flight uses a fork of MonoGame for things like game window management, rendering, and asset loading (mostly low level stuff). While MonoGame is a great framework (if you are an aspiring game developer, go check it out—it's simple, free, and used by many successful games), our fork is now quite outdated and is hindering our ability to adapt to new features introduced by iOS and Android.

In this release, we removed a large portion of our dependency to MonoGame in favor of a simpler, more tailor-made solution that should help in keeping up with new platform features. This dependency was a major roadblock to "Project Metal" some of you might remember us talking about a long time ago. There is still some significant work to do, but we have a clearer view of the finish line at this point. To the end user, those changes should be mostly transparent, aside from better platform integration (eg. better controller support) and better perceived performance (eg. improved frame pacing).

Performance Tweaks

To ensure smoother skies on the multiplayer servers, we’ve introduced performance improvements that promise a more synchronized flying experience with fellow aviators. We've fixed many random crashes that could happen on longer multiplayer flights. As well, fixes are in place to prevent potential "race conditions" which would cause objects not to load at airports.

Turkish Language Added

We are delighted to announce that Turkish is now available as a language option in Infinite Flight. Thank you once again to the volunteers that have helped translate Infinite Flight, making our app as accessible as possible!

An important note for Android users

As a necessary step in moving forward with development, we will be increasing our minimum device requirements for Android in 23.3. Infinite Flight will now require Android 9.0 (Pie) or newer. This decision does not come lightly but is necessary as we continue to add more features and maintain a good experience for as many users as possible.

If your device cannot be upgraded to Android 9.0, you will still be able to enjoy Infinite Flight on version 23.2 until our next update.
